Actresses in Conversation

In celebration of Black History Month, the Canadian Film Centre and Clement Virgo will host an evening in conversation with actresses Pam Grier and Jennifer Beals who will explore their personal experiences and the position of Black actresses in the film industry. The discussion will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, at Cineplex Varsity and VIP Cinemas, 55 Bloor Street West, Toronto. Tickets are $20.00 and proceeds go to the CFC Diversity Scholarship.

Tickets can be purchased in advance through T.O. TIX in person, online at www.totix.ca or at the venue the night of the event.

Grenadian Dance Performance

The Grenadian SpyceLand Dancers, on their first official visit to Canada, will perform at the 24th Annual International Association of Blacks in Dance Conference and Festival in Toronto hosted by dance Immersion. Under the artistic direction of Teheria Viechweg, SpyceLand will present their piece, A Glimpse of Carnival, at the Emerging Artists Showcase on Thursday, January 26, at 6 p.m. at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

Basdeo Panday tribute

Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Basdeo Panday, this Saturday, December 3, at The Centre, 6765 Invader Crescent, Mississauga. The special dinner event is being billed as a Living Tribute to Panday, who was the country's prime minister from 1995 to 2000 and the first leader of East Indian heritage. The Congress of Black Women of Canada, Oshawa-Whitby Chapter, will hold a 'Men's Health Forum' to mark Prostate Cancer Month, this Saturday, November 12, at 1252 Pentland St. - Community Room - in Oshawa (One block south of Ritson Road at Taunton) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
