The series runs every weekend at various venues in Toronto each night featuring a different cast of singers and live bands performing Calypso in its best storytelling tradition – social and political commentary, humour and wit.

New group has bold plans for Caribbean community

A network of Caribbean organizations in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) has emerged with bold and ambitious plans to develop programs for young people and seniors, collaborate with local organizations to put together a disaster preparedness plan for the Caribbean and explore the possibility of establishing a community centre.

The Council of Caribbean Associations -Canada (CCAC), comprising 13 associations, was officially launched last Sunday in Toronto.

Caribana Gala to honour pioneers

Tickets are now available for the second annual Scotiabank Caribana Gala and dance. This high-end event features “Carnival Music and Artistry” and is an evening to honour the works of the pioneers of the Caribana Festival.

This weekend’s calypso tent action

The annual Calypso Tent Music Series, sponsored by the Organization of Calypso Performing Artists (OCPA), is now in full swing with calypso "tents" taking place every weekend. However, this weekend both tents - The Professionals and Kaiso Forum - will be performing on Saturday only at two different venues.

Pickering’s star track teams need proper facilities – coach

Though Pickering High School had produced several outstanding athletes like sprinter Enver Carolissen and high jumper Chris Scott, the Ajax school track and field program was not competitive when Cyril Sahadath joined the staff in 1989.

And, as if he needed a reminder of what was expected, the school's physical education head laid down the welcome mat with a brief and direct greeting: "You have to be a winner."

Sahadath has not disappointed.
